We started talking and planning our fall trip during the winter. Turkey wasn't even on my travel radar, but our friend Doug, who is in the travel business, peaked our interest. "Turkey is one of those places I would love to go back to," he said. Doug travels a lot! Hmm? That was enough to make me start researching and reading, and the deeper I got into it, I wondered why I hadn't thought about this destination before. A country with so much varied history. The ancients really played around in this land and left their mark. Images of the ruins of Ephesus beckon to me; the landscape around Cappadoccia, where scenes from Star Wars were filmed; the glorious coastal villages and seascapes; and then Istanbul - exotic, alluring, old and modern side by side... okay, so we were hooked.
We chose G-Adventures, the same company we travelled with in Peru. Their Turkey Explorer seems to cover all of the travel hotspots that I had been reading about. https://www.gadventures.com/trips/turkey-explorer/ETTE/2013/itinerary/ Time for departure is just over three weeks away.
